Guild Wars 2 Combo System Explained

ArenaNet tells us about "burning, bouncing" axes.

Guild Wars 2

ArenaNet has posted an update on its developer blog, explaining some of the new mechanics in its upcoming MMO, Guild Wars 2. One of the most interesting additions will be the so-called "cross profession combos", which basically allow players to string two attacks together to create some ultra-powerful smack-down moves.
The "cross profession combos" work as follows: one player will begin the combo with an "initiator" ability, while another player will end the combo with a compatible "finisher". As ArenaNet's Jon Peters explains:

"So what happens when a finisher meets an initiator? Here are some examples to get you excited. Use Ricochet through a Firewall to get a bouncing axe that has a chance to burn the targets it hits. Leaping Death Blossom through a Symbol of Faith will remove conditions from allies near your target. Stomp inside a Smoke Screen to cloak nearby allies. This is just a small sampling of what you can do with combos, and we leave it to you to find them all and combo to your heart's delight."

The developer blog also gives information about updates to the engineer's tool belt, as well as how pet battles will work. You can read the whole post here.
Thanks, PC Gamer.

Spy Guy says: The combos may not sound as exciting as those found in your average Capcom fighting game, but it's still an interesting addition that will encourage team-work and experimentation. ArenaNet are also promising a huge amount of combo variations to try out.
