Star Trek dev Gameforge hit by massive layoffs

100 jobs have been slashed at German games developer Gameforge, as the company undergoes a massive “realignment”. The decision comes following the August merger of Gameforge and Frogster, and brings with it a bunch of other shuffles within the company.

Mythos

Designed to create a “sustainable future” for the studio, the realignment also includes the cancellation of HellBreed and Mythos, both previously in development, while Star Trek: Infinite Space is also on the chopping block unless Gameforge can find a co-publisher to shoulder some of the responsibilities.
Alexander Roesner, CEO at Gameforge is optimistic about the changes:
Through a more efficient organizational structure, we can optimize our use of resources and great potential for further growth increase. This will strengthen our long term position in the dynamic market for online games.

Part of the organisational changes include splitting the company into “development” and “publishing” divisions, with one side focussing on (you guessed it) internal development, while the other takes charge of platform strategy and games portfolio. Previous distinctions of “client-based games” and “web games” have been scrapped.

Roesner continues:

We take responsibility for our employees very seriously and strive to find a socially responsible solution for the affected team members.

The job cuts – while hefty – still leaves Gameforge with more than 300 employees
